ITINERARY "Snorkeling & Discovery" 1 day
Early morning arrival and accommodation in the reserved accommodation.
I recommend to hire a means of transport just landed (preferably a 2 wheels) to move in Salina, as the island is very large and often between a settelment and another there are long distances.
The main roads are all driveways with bottlenecks, but sometimes it is better to pay attention to the road rather than the views that, inevitably, will capture the eyes.
The tour starts from the port of the arrival, Santa Marina, from the southeast side of the island, at the foot of Monte Fossa delle Felci, a huge extinct crater and covered by dense vegetation of ferns.
The eighteenth-century church welcomes tourists who arrive, with its characteristic bell towers.
Santa Marina is the town that harbors the nightlife because it is full of shops that are open late into the evening and the shops and coffe shops already enliven starting from aperitif.
At about 100 m. from the ring road, in the direction of Water Serro, through a path surrounded by thick vegetation of olive and fruit trees, you will reach the Saracen caves, built in the tuff and well hidden in a distracted passerby, once useful as shelters from the atrocious barbarism of the Saracens of 650 A.C.
A visit inside will show the particular morphology consisting of several adjoining rooms each other and where you can still see the incisions cross and some votive signs.
Taking up the tour in the northeast, a charming fishing village, whose homes, with the typical white color, stand out along a slope that slides into the sea.
Following the road leading to the port there is a crossroad indicating "Punta Scario Galera."
I suggest making a stop. You will be astonished by the context in which unravels a beaten path that will lead to a pebbly beach, where some nice islanders rent mats to be used as beds on the pebbles or on the sea.
